MUSC doctor arrested for alleged role in unauthorized stem cell treatment, harvesting

MUSC professor Vincent Dammai has been placed on leave following his arrest as part of an alleged conspiracy ring.

That ring was disrupted on Tuesday when a judge unsealed records on Francisco "Frank" Morales of Texas who was the alleged centerpiece and is accused of selling the harvested stem cells for treatments not approved by the FDA.

Dammai is accused of harvesting the stem cells for Morales.

Many many reports abound on this, but for a more local focus I'll point you to The State's report (read that here) and for the original report out of Texas head to ValleyCentral.com (read that here).

Not yet clear is weather the alleged treatments were considered effective or snake oil.

Earlier this year MUSC was also in the headlines after a professor who was creating a synthetic meat was abruptly dismissed.

We'll be sure to keep you posted.
