State Ports Authority's curious case of 61 stolen containers

Listed in a recent report released by the city of North Charleston, between 2007 and 2009, at least 61 shipping containers were stolen from areas around the city.

What's particularly odd about the information is the fact that a many of the containers have been stolen from within 1,000 feet of State Ports Authority or other commercial shipyard property. Odder still is that the majority of stolen containers have turned up hundreds of miles away at the Port of Miami.

Sounds like a drug smuggling operation if you ask me.

The Post and Courier's article on the case of the missing containers says that as a precaution, the Port is pursuing a Homeland Security grant upwards of $600,000.

Go take a read.
