Charleston Police Chief Greg Mullen is pushing for a network of surveillance cameras throughout Charleston.

He has however met some resistance with getting funding: A request for a homeland security grant of $435,000 was denied.

Police Chief Mullen is confident these cameras will only benefit Charleston, but the ACLU worries the effort might enhance racial profiling, while violating privacy.

Britain's near-infamous attempt to safeguard citizens with a wide mesh of cameras has met with little success.
