Horry County Police starts school crime tip line

Johnathan Lyman

Horry County Police have a new number for the public to call in tips or information on crimes committed in schools.

Beginning August 15th the Horry County Police Department will activate its new School Crime Tip Line, 843-915-SROS (7767). The purpose for this telephone line is to give the public the ability to provide information to the department relating to criminal activity in area schools. The line will be monitored daily (except for holidays and weekends) by members of the School Resource Officer Unit.

Calls of an urgent nature should still be directed to 9-1-1 and issues involving routine school operations should be directed to the appropriate school district representative.

At a minimum, the caller should be able to provide the following information:

  • The name(s) of schools that are involved or affected
  •  Suspect or victim names, descriptions, or other relevant information.
  •  Alleged type of criminal activity.
  • When the activity occurred or is projected to occur.

While not required, callers are strongly encouraged to leave their contact information in the event additional information is needed. The police department is also currently working to provide an email address for tip information which will be linked on the HCPD county website
