Some schools adjusting to kids' sleeping patterns

While some North Charleston elementary students will need to wake earlier, some North Charleston high school students will get a chance to sleep in.

The Post and Courier writes:
Charleston County schools Superintendent Nancy McGinley has given the OK to a plan that allows Stall and North Charleston high school students to start school more than an hour later this fall while North Charleston Elementary School students will start school at least 20 minutes earlier.

The changes to high school students are based on studies (like this one) that show later start times can boost high schoolers' attendance and performance.

But the paper reports that some folks are concerned that the schedule shift will place a strain on families.

The Post and Courier has a listing of the news start and end times for Charleston County schools.
