Massive pump to make journey from Summerville to Japan nuclear reactors

A massive pump at 170,000 pounds and 60% the length of a football field -- and one of only three such beasts in the world -- will be folded up and hauled to Atlanta.

The Autobetonpumpe M 70 will then be loaded on a massive Antonov An-225 Mriya six-engine, heavy-lift cargo transport to be flown to Japan, where it will blast water on the radioactive reactors.

And it turned out that one of those three just happened to be in Summerville.

The Post and Courier has a photo of the machine and more details on just how massive it is and how it will be transported; get them here.
