Pigs, iguanas, peacocks, and more: Local animal shelter a hub for oddities

Image by Flickr user Hamed SaberImage by 20080913peacock.jpg Peacocks are just one of the many exotic animals to flow through Charleston's animal shelters.

The Charleston Animal Society gets it fair share of strange creatures, and after a 500-pound pig made its way to the shelter the Charleston City Paper thought it'd dig up a few of the odder animals and their adopters.

And excerpt:
Over the years, the animal society has taken in a variety of wild or unusual fare -- miniature horses, rare birds, huge lizards, an armadillo, and lots of rats.

It's a good, and amusing read, so go read it.
