Privacy-enhanced body scanners have arrived at CHS International

The Charleston International Airport has joined more than 130 airports nationwide in using controversial full body-scanning technology.

The machines - which screen passengers for metallic and nonmetallic threats, including explosives - will improve security and hopefully improve the flow of passengers through checkpoints.

The Charleston International scanners are of the new "privacy-enhanced" body scanner technology. Instead of a detailed image of the passenger's body, the machine will eliminate passenger-specific images and instead auto-detect potential threat items.

Live 5 News has the report on the new scanners; read it here.
