South Carlina, Charleston unemployment down again

The overall number of jobs and unemployment rate bettered in both the Charleston metro area and South Carolina during February.

Down from 8.6% in February to 8.4%, the number of employed persons increased to 1,992,113, and the unemployed totaled 182,978, the lowest level since October of 2008.

Unemployment this March in the Charleston are improved faster, with unemployment falling from 6.8% to 6.4% with the number of jobs growing from 330,801 to 330,361.

The job situation also bettered in all three counties:

  • Charleston County: 6.6% to 6.2%
  • Berkeley County: 7.2% to 6.8%
  • Dorchester County: 6.7% to 6.6%

Nationally, unemployment fell from 7.7% in February to 7.6% in March.
