Lowcountry charts another massive oak

Image by Flickr user Keep My Day JobImage by 20080827angeloak.jpg The Angel Oak gets all the fame, but there's other game in town when you're not just talking about age.

Though it's up for debate if the tree technically qualifies, one thing's for sure: It's massive.

The base of the Bonneau Beach tree measure some 40 feet, but it's virtually impossible to know if it's one or three trees. So it's unlikely the record's of the Angel Oak (at 25.5 feet) or Middleton Oak (at 37 feet) will be displaced.

Read more about the tree and see photos at The Post and Courier.

If you've got an interest in grand oaks, know that there's a meeting tonight about trying to save some 40 grand trees at the Folly and Camp road intersection, and there's a meeting September 3 about whether or not to allow 55 grand trees to be impacted by a development.
