Duke Energy talk to use more renewable resources by burning trees alarms advocates

Duke Energy is laying plans to get 12.5% of its energy from renewable sources and has said it's keeping the option open to harvest and burn whole trees -- a statement that has alarmed green energy advocates as they fear for unintended consequences of burning and harvesting entire trees for energy and not just wood waste.

Part of the fears are what sort of pollutants the trees might produce when burned and what effect little regulated tree harvesting would have on North and South carolina forests.

The Charlotte Observer has the story.
