Proposed I-526 expansion remains stalled and lacking in dollars

It's been well over a year since Charleston County voted to abandon the contentious I-526 expansion through James and Johns islands to West Ashley and then voted to turn project management back over to the S.C. DOT — and it seems little more has happened since then.

The Post and Courier offers an update noting that the project has largely stalled while at the same time no more money is being found for a project that already exceeds allotted funds — $420 million is available and the most recent estimated cost is $556 million.
