The old plan is old news now.

Updated October 16: The Post and Courier has followed with reaction from some key figures in the process and debate and, expectadley, the reaction is mixe; take a read here.

Frist reporting, October 15: With mounting criticism of completing I-526 though Johns and James island, and just a general dislike of S.C. DOT's latest plan, at the latest meeting Charleston County Council has changed their request and is asking the Department to build a shorter I-526.

The new road would only connect Johns Island to the current terminus of the Interstate in West Ashley and, with the money saved, focus on building roads to better connect Johns Island to the new leg of the highway.

The Post and Courier has a nice rundown on the situation; take a read here and look at an early map of the new proposal.
