Restaurants, bars see hope for trash mounds as Charleston re-evaluates recycling pickup

Image by Flickr user cafemama You think you pile up a lot of bottles and cans?

Following the shutdown of the Charleston County trash incinerator, the county is working hard to achieve a new way to deal with all its trash: recycling 40% of all would-be landfill.

Despite that the county has yet to offer businesses recycling pickup and all those bottles, cans, and various plastics from area restaurants and bars head to the trash -- unless the local business owners are willing to pay for a private company to pickup.

But that may soon change as the county gets ready to implement a pilot program.

Live 5 News has a nice video and text report where they chat with waste management officials and downtown business owner of Caviar and Bananas who spends $200 a month for recycling pickup; watch and read here.
