S.C. earns chance to toss some of its water war opposition

Our state has just won a small victory in its U.S. Supreme Court battle with North Carolina over water rights to the Catawba River.

Read more stories on this subject in our Catawba River topic page.The State reports that the high court will hear arguments on why three opposing parties should be removed from the case.

Charlotte, Duke Energy, and a water utility are on North Carolina's side, arguing that the state can do as it pleases with its water.

And, they're not small players, Charlotte has already spent some $800,000 on the case and plans to spend another $500,000 by year end.
