Charleston County School Board back idea on themed schools

The Charleston County School Board has decided unanimously to back a plan to incorporate more themed schools to improve students' access to special programs and create equity throughout the district.

What exactly is a themed school? Think Montessori, math and science or arts-infused schools.

By creating at least one themed school in each school zone, students will have the opportunity to receive high quality, specialized education. The plan, proposed by School Superintendent Nancy McGinley, has been in the works since September 2009.

A committee has taken the issue under advisement, and the board will vote on the proposal at its next meeting.
