Fears do much to silence Obama's address in Lowcountry

Despite much handwringing, President Obama's address to the nation's students proved to be as innocuous as promised.

Read more stories on this subject in our Barack Obama topic page.But my aim isn't to talk about what you probably already know, it's to point out this piece by The Post and Courier that dissects how the viewing went in the Charleston area.

Though Dorchester 2 got the heat for flatly banning the airing of the speech on Tuesday, in many area schools the message was still not heard.

The paper points out that at "West Ashley High School in Charleston, the speech was shown after school in the media center, and that will happen again today and Thursday. Two students and one teacher showed up to watch it."

Don't folks know that no one ever does the "optional" activities in grade school?
