Former Mt. Pleasant Mayor Harry Hallman passes away

On the morning of January 8, 2011, Harry Hallman passed away at his home from a heart attack.

Hallman was Mount Pleasant's mayor from 2000 to 2009 when he stepped down due to a progressing condition of Alzheimer's.  His administration was responsible for the unprecedented construction of highways and recreation facilities as well as establishing innovative and strategic land use planning and growth management policies. He was instrumental in establishing and funding the Medal of Honor Museum aboard the USS Yorktown at Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum.

“I have known Harry for 40 years. He was the finest example of public servant the State of South Carolina and the nation will ever know,” said Mayor Billy Swails, overwhelmed by the sudden news. “Our hearts and our prayers go out to his wife Brooke and their daughters and entire family.”

The Post and Courier has already published a lengthy obituary that you can read here.
