Update September 6: Alas it seems she is not coming, but Jesse Jackson will be giving the keynote instead. They've also bumped the even back to October 18.
Original post: Rumor is that Michelle Obama could be coming to town to speak at the Charleston NAACP branch's Freedom Fund Banquet at the North Charleston Convention Center (map) on Saturday (September 13) at 7 p.m.
The Post and Courier does some digging on if it could happen:
The NAACP hopes to land Michelle Obama as its keynote speaker but declined further comment Wednesday. It's one of the prime opportunities to talk with the politically active Democratic base in the Lowcountry.
The visit could largely depend on how much of shot the campaign feels it may or may not have in South Carolina. Lately, those chances have seemed to thin.
We'll keep you posted.
