S.C. moves up primary date to keep ahead of Florida

2012 is already looking like 2008 in South Carolina in that the Palmetto State is once again fighting with Florida to maintain its record as the first primary in the South.

In late September, Florida once again announced it would move up its primary to January 31 and this week the S.C. GOP announced that it would step up theirs to January 21.

“Last Friday, a nine person committee brought chaos to the 2012 calendar. Today, South Carolina is making things right," said S.C. GOP Chairman Chad Connelly. “South Carolina Republicans have a thirty year track record of picking the eventual Republican Presidential nominee. We will continue that historic tradition on January 21, 2012."

Now the S.C. GOP only needs to wind down the battle over whether taxpayers should help pay for political primaries.
