S.C. School bus fleet could see a $12M infusion

Remember way back in 2007 when South Carolina's economy was still swell and state leaders were dedicated to upgrading the ancient bus fleet?

Well, it happened.

And despite a $40 million investment for the following school year to buy 529 buses, that commitment has long been ignored. But now it seems it may yet be alive, as the S.C. Senate version of the budget includes $12 million for new buses.

I'll shoot you over to read an Associated Press report on the matter (it's also a nice refresher on just how old many of our state's buses are).

For how long that will survive and if it will make it through the House and Haley remains to be seen — though news of a potential $110 million surplus is bound to help.
