S.C.'s Employment Security Commission being investigated by FBI

Comptroller General Richard Eckstrom contacted the U.S. Inspector General’s office and the FBI regarding the S.C. Employment Security Commission to see if the agency was recording stimulus funding properly.

After noticing irregularities in the accounting practices, Eckstrom announced he'd made the call at Governor Mark Sanford's cabinet meeting on Tuesday. Since the FBI got involved, the Employment Security Commission released the information indicating it had received $688 million, which had indeed been improperly recorded.

As the story and the information developed, The S.C. Chamber of Commerce called for Samuel R. Foster, the leadership of the embattled Employment Security Commission, to step down.
