The first official South Carolina alligator hunting season in more than four decades has ended, leaving only 187 'gators killed out of a possible kill total of 1,000.
The season started a little over a month ago, and it wasn't but a couple of days until a local had killed the first of the year, a 12-footer.
- Here's some quick numbers:
- 100,000: Estimated population of alligators in S.C.
- 1,500: Number of alligator-hunting applicants
- 1,000: Number of licenses issued
- 187: Number of alligator kills made

Head over to The Post and Courier for lots more on the conclusion of the season. The paper also has a photo gallery from alligator hunting season.
