Johns Island express road inches forward

Charleston County has gathered 1,274 responses from the public on what to do about growing traffic on Johns Island. Perhaps unsurprising, folks on Kiawah and Seabrook islands favor an expressway of sorts, while people that live on Johns Island are more mixed about it.

The Post and Courier has done some digging, and after reading through it I got the impression that while the expressway (and a toll) are still a maybe, the winds are generally blowing in favor of it. Here's an excerpt:
[Charleston County Councilman ] Thurmond said he plans to ask fellow council members in the next several weeks to approve a resolution asking the South Carolina Department of Transportation to start discussing the idea with private companies that build roads.

But if you don't want the road, hope may not be lost, as the Coastal Conservation League gathered some 1,214 names of people saying no to a "Cross Island Expressway."
