AAA Carolinas expects a growing number of South Carolina motorists to hit the road during what's typically the busiest driving weekend of the year.

With planes ticket prices too much to handle for some folks, the hassle of pre-flight security measures and the recent closure of one of the Charleston International Airport's two runways, more and more South Carolinians are choosing the automobile travel option.

More than 574,000 motorists plan to drive more than 50 miles away from home to kick off the holiday season, according to newly released travel association figures.

The Post and Courier has a big old post on this year's projected travel figures; jump over and take a peek.
