Update May 26: It looks as though the I-26 construction project is coming to a close.

The overpass at Aviation Avenue opened yesterday--days earlier than was initially estimated. The new interstate lanes are still set to open in July, and that's when the ramps will be completed and opened as well.

WCBD-TV 2 has a nice video report providing construction updates; watch it here.

First reporting: The road maintenance along Interstate 26 which began a little over two years ago is finally drawing to a close.

The Post and Courier reports that the $66 million I-26 improvement project will be finished no later than early July.

In all, the project has widened and resurfaced the highway from six lanes to eight lanes between Interstate 526 and Ashley Phosphate Road and redesigned interchanges at Remount Road and Aviation Avenue to provide a safer, smoother drive.

For more on the project, including a handy map depicting the improvements, hop over to the article in The Post and Courier.
