Update April 20: Looks like they weren't able to get everything done that they needed to, and now the nighttime closures will continue through Thursday.

Here's what they said in an e-mailed release:

There will be more closures of I-26 from Tuesday through Thursday nights of this week.

Both directions will be shut down at about 11pm each night. Westbound Interstate 26 (heading out of Charleston) will re-open by 6am each morning. Eastbound Interstate 26 (heading to Charleston) will re-open by 5am. Detour routes, using Rivers Avenue and I-526, will be marked. If traveling those nights, please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

We want to thank everyone for their patience as we attempt to work around shifting weather forecasts and rainy and windy spring weather. While we were able to work on I-26 Saturday night, we postponed further work due to bad weather forecasts for last night and tonight.

Please forward this to anyone who might want to know more about what's going on with the project. If you have any questions, please let us know.

First reporting: A core portion of Interstate 26 in the Charleston area will be closed this weekend for overpass work at the Remount Road interchange.

Read more stories on this subject in our lane closures topic page.Specifically, the area between Interstate 526 and Ashley Phosphate Road will be affected from 11 p.m. to the early morning hours on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday nights (April 18-20).

We've put together a Google map below to help you digest this, but -- first -- here's the full description of what's going to happen from an e-mailed release:

For the next week, lane closures will take place on both directions of I-26 between I-526 and Ashley Phosphate Road. Three more nights of closures are scheduled to allow overhead beam placement at the Remount Road interchange, as well as the removal of overhead signs.

I-26 WILL BE CLOSED to through traffic the next three nights - Saturday (4/18), Sunday (4/19), and Monday (4/20). This work will be dependent upon weather conditions.

Interstate 26 will be closed in both directions at 11 P.M. I-26 Eastbound will re-open by 5 a.m. and Westbound will re-open by 6 a.m. Remount Road between Rivers Avenue and Core Avenue will also be closed during this time.

-Traffic using I-26 Westbound will exit at I-526 East, exit at Rivers Avenue (U.S. 52/78 West), and return to I-26 via U.S. 78 West.
-Traffic using I-26 Eastbound will exit at Aviation Avenue, turn right onto Rivers Avenue (U.S. 52/78 East), and return to I-26 via I-526 West.

You may also want to consider the following alternate routes:

-Motorists heading to I-26 East on Dorchester Road from Summerville that would normally use Ashley Phosphate to get to I-26 should continue to Montague Avenue to access I-26.
-Motorists heading to I-26 East on Rivers Avenue should NOT use the US 52 connector, but should continue on Rivers Avenue East to access I-26 via I-526.

Motorists traveling through this area, including I-26 and Rivers Avenue, should expect delays and congestion. Please allow extra travel time and watch for slowed or stopped traffic. SCDOT personnel will be monitoring the timing of traffic signals and extra law enforcement will be on hand to help keep traffic moving and reduce congestion.
