Around 1:30 Sunday morning, a car was struck on the James Island Connector, by a second car driving the wrong way.

The woman driving the wrong way, Amy McCormick, 37, has been charged with two counts of felony DUI and one count of child endangerment, as a child was strapped into her car. The child was unhurt.

The passenger in the other car would not be as fortunate. Brett Maynard, 35, died on the scene. Maynard had worked as a chef at Fulton Five, Rue de Jean, and had opened Twizt on James Island.

Crazy.

Update December 1: Updated throughout.

Update December 2: NBC News 2 has a video that serves as a bit of a mini-memorial to Brett's professional career.
