Brush fire destroys 23 acres in Johns Island

We haven't had rain here in the Lowcountry in quite a while, and the effects showed yesterday as a brush fire scorched over 20 acres in Johns Island off of Main Road.

Thankfully, the St. Johns Fire Department along with three other fire departments and S.C. Forestry Commission workers were able to contain the fire after five hours. Firefighters worked into the evening, dousing flare-ups and ensuring that the fire did not replenish itself.

For more details about the brush fire, check out The Post and Courier's brief here.

And Johns Island isn't the only place in the area that's dealt with fires. Check out a post over at TheDigitel Beaufort dealing with fires in that region.
