Update May 1: Although the scene was chaotic on the Cooper River Bridge on-ramp was closed for 5 hours, no one was seriously injured in yesterday's accident.

The Post and Courier offers a detailed update in which they report that faulty brakes on the runaway 18-wheeler are being blamed for the accident involving four vehicles; read the paper's report here.

Live 5 News also offers an updated report.

First reporting: A City of Charleston Police cruiser was crushed in an accident on the Charleston side of the Cooper River Bridge on-ramps this morning.

Word is that the cruiser was crushed between an on-ramp concrete wall and a tractor trailer — it sounds like two officers have been injured.

The story is still developing, I'll point you to ABC News 4 for the latest.

Traffic was still backed up as of 11:15 a.m.

A map of the location and more images of the accident are below.
