Charleston Southern University baseball player Will Bedenbaugh was killed in a single-car accident late Saturday night near his home in Prosperity, S.C., when his car ran off the road.

“Charleston Southern University and especially our CSU Baseball family are very saddened by the loss of Will Bedenbaugh,” said Buccaneer Head Coach Stuart Lake. “Will was a very special person to his teammates and coaches. He was a part of our very first recruiting class here that has done many great things on the field, in the classroom and community. We will honor Will throughout this 2011 season and in the future. He will forever be a part of CSU Baseball.”

A redshirt freshman for the Buccaneers, Bedenbaugh appeared in 10 games at catcher in 2010.  He had two hits, a run and an RBI in 12 at bats, batting .167 before suffering a season-ending injury.  Bedenbaugh was also a pitcher for the Bucs.

Visitation will be held at McSwain-Evans Funeral home in Newberry, S.C., on Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m.  A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the Zion United Methodist Church in Prosperity, S.C.

In lieu of flowers, family members have asked the donations be made to the Will Bedenbaugh Fund at CSU Baseball.
