Update April 26, 1:12 p.m.: The Post and Courier has followed up with passenger accounts of the strange smell that began filling the cabin about an hour into the flight.

Officials who checked out the plane say there has been no evidence of smoke detection, but failed to give an alternative explanation.

First reporting: A 737 American Airlines jet headed to Washington D.C. from Miami was forced to make an emergency landing at the Charleston International Airport.

Smoke was smelled inside of the plane, and the pilot decided to land the bird in Charleston around 11:30 a.m. on Monday morning. No injuries have been reported.

Few details have been made available, but for now, Live 5 News's brief is your best bet.
