While it has yet to be confirmed, 19-year-old Marine Corps recruit Keerica Allen died of an apparent case of meningitis at the Parris Island training depot.

Meningitis' symptoms are often headache, neck stiffness, fever, confusion and altered consciousness, vomiting, and an inability to tolerate light or loud noises.

Some 200 people that Allen came in contact with have been given precautionary treatments.

Multiple reports are out there, but The Island Packet is leading the way with the most depth and explainers on meningitis; take a read of their report here.

The last time such a death happened at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island was in 2001
