Principal Moore leaving for North Carolina

MiShawna Moore, one of Charleston County's most well-respected principals, is leaving to take a job in North Carolina. No one is saying where she's going or what exactly her position will be, but she gained a lot of recognition here in Charleston for her double-duty as principal of two struggling schools: Sanders-Clyde Elementary and Fraser Elementary.

From The Post and Courier:

School officials announced Wednesday that MiShawna Moore, principal of Sanders-Clyde and Fraser Elementary schools, would be leaving Charleston to take on a "new educational leadership challenge" in an unspecified school district.

Moore did not return three calls for comment and told district officials she did not want to be interviewed. Her decision was in keeping with her reputation as a media-shy principal.

Moore's resignation comes as a shock to school leaders and parents. She said less than a month ago that she wanted to continue leading both high-poverty, downtown schools.

As referred to above, The Post and Courier ran a story about a month ago on Moore's tireless efforts to improve the two elementary schools.
