According to Education Week's Quality Counts 2011 Grades and Highlights report, South Carolina's overall grade has slipped to a C+.

The drop in overall grade also resulted in the state falling from it's 11th place national ranking in 2010 to 15th.

Here's how South Carolina scored in the six-category grading system:

  • Chance for Success: C
  • K-12 Achievement: D-
  • Standards, Assessment and Accountability: A
  • Transitions and Alignment: C-
  • Teaching Profession: A
  • School Finance: C-

The Post and Courier has an article on the ranking, a link to the Quality Counts report and insight on what the state needs to take away from these 2011 findings; you'll find it all right here.
