The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles started a new program in June that associates emergency contact information with your driver's license, beginner's permit, or identification card.
According to their site:
In the event of a collision or other medical emergency, law enforcement will have access to this information and may provide it to emergency medical personnel.
You can enter your emergency contact information online here. You'll need your driver's license or identification card number, social security number, and date of birth. You can read more in this press release.
