State's welfare recipients facing 20 percent cuts come February

South Carolina's welfare agency will be cutting monthly payments by 20 percent beginning in February 2011.

For a better understanding of what the state's poorest families will be facing, consider this: monthly checks for the average parent with two children will drop from $270 to $216.

The cuts are a result of the state trying to compensate for a $28.8 million budget deficit.
