WINGS for kids received the National Competitive AmeriCorps Grant at a hefty sum of $203,059 for the 2011-12 school year.

Over 300 organizations applied for funding throughout the country, and only 53 of those were funded. WINGS for kids was the only organization in South Carolina to receive an AmeriCorps grant.

AmeriCorps programs engage members in intensive service through over 14,000 nonprofit organizations nationwide. Members provide 1,700 hours of service in exchange for a $5,350 Segal AmeriCorps Education Award that can go towards paying for college or paying back student loans. The grant that WINGS for kids was awarded will fund 42 AmeriCorps members, who will work with children in WINGS's afterschool programs.
