Male fish in Pee Dee taking on female characteristics

The State has the wire report that male fish in parts of the Pee Dee River are developing female characteristics at an alarming rate.
Uh oh.
The article goes on to explain that it may have to do with the fish being exposed to birth control pills and hormones that are getting into the waterways.
The fish most commonly affected are the large and small mouth bass, a couple of the most sought after catches in the area.
