The Post and Courier has the story of eight ducklings that went on a wild ride through a drainage pipe this morning at Folly Beach's Mariner's Cay.

Maintenance workers were alerted to the scene by a mother mallard who was frantically squawking in front of a drainage pipe. Upon inspection, it was found that eight of her babies had fallen through the grate covering the pipe.

Folly Beach firefighters came to remove the ducklings, but just as they got the the grate off, the water rose and flushed all eight of the ducklings out toward the marsh. Sadly, only six survived the ordeal.
