Update March 9: Gustavo A. "Tito" Montoya Jr., the trapeze artist who fell while performing February 28th at a traveling circus in Summerville has died.

The Post and Courier has just a bit on the tragedy.

First reporting: On Sunday, February 28, Tito Montoya lost his grip while performing a trapeze show in Summerville. The featured performer with the Walker Bros. circus had to be taken to MUSC.

A Los Angeles Times report from 2006 has a bit of background on Montoya's credentials:

Tito Montoya, one of the instructors, is from a four-generation circus family, and started flying when he was 5 with the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. His mother was a high-wire walker, his sisters were also trapeze artists and his father was the catcher. His brothers-in-law were the lion tamer and the human cannonball. His best trick is a triple flip, and flying is as natural to him as walking.
