Plan a unique, eco-friendly wedding and assist Lowcountry war veterans

Watch a mock wedding, catch the latest bridal trends and meet a wide range of vendors, all while helping veterans in the Lowcountry. The Citadel Beach Club, one of the area’s most desirable wedding venues, will host The Cotton Wedding on March 27 at 6 p.m. The house is located right on the beach on Isle of Palms at 4700 Palm Blvd. just 20 minutes from downtown Charleston. The Cotton Wedding is presented by Brinko Ties and Kendal Leonard Designs, with the proceeds from ticket sales and donations benefitting The Citadel Emergency Relief Fund for Veterans and Military Students.

“The Citadel Emergency Relief Fund for Veterans and Military Students was recently established for the college’s veteran and active duty military students to address unforeseen life events that might impede their ability to graduate,” said Bob McNamara dean of The Citadel Graduate College and director of the college’s veterans program.  “The fund will assist students with a proven need which may be great or small. We are grateful to have the support of The Cotton Wedding sponsors and our community overall.”

The Citadel currently has more veteran students than ever before with more than 120 veterans enrolled as undergraduate and graduate students. The Citadel has expanded its facilities and services for veterans who want to return to or attend college. The military culture of The Citadel has proven to be a supportive and constructive environment for veterans, especially those who are just recently out of the theater of engagement in Iraq and Afghanistan.

“We chose The Citadel Emergency Relief Fund for Veterans and Military Students because we wanted to show gratitude to those who have served our country. Brinko Ties and Kendal Leonard Designs place great importance upon the value of giving back to our local community,” said Bethany Robertson, owner of Brinko Ties.

The Cotton Wedding will feature exceptional and unique goods, services and inspiration for those that are planning a wedding or event in Charleston or the Lowcountry. It was named for the current trend of taking weddings back to nature with more organic designs and the use of sustainable and reclaimed cotton from Kendal Leonard Designs. Different from most bridal shows, The Cotton Wedding will take the form of a mock wedding−incorporating a fashion show, and reception into the presentation. More than 20 of the area’s most creative vendors, rising artists and entrepreneurs, will be on hand to learn from and explore for ideas.

Tickets are $20 per individual and $35 per couple. For more information about The Cotton Wedding please click here, or call (843) 819-0565.  If unable to attend the event, The Cotton Wedding will be accepting donations to the veterans emergency relief fund here.

Located on the oceanfront of the Isle of Palms, the Robert R. McCormick Beach Club of The Citadel is one of Charleston's premiere event venues.
