Image by Flickr user Gage Skidmore Gingrich is now polling at number one in S.C.

Ahead of the ever-import "first in the South", the race is tightening for South Carolina's January 21 GOP primary.

Most notably, between Newt Gingrich and Michele Bachmann — both of whom have campaigned heavily in the Palmetto State and the latter of which is trailing Gingrich (38% to 3%) and being more combative.

Mitt Romney is continuing his consistent second place at 13%.
