The local political mill is abuzz after word has spread that the name of Charleston's police chief, Greg Mullen, was spotted in a news report about being on the short list to take the New Orleans top cop job.

New Orleans Newschannel 6 (WDSU) said this mid-way down a report about the city's search:

Sources told the WDSU I-Team on Monday that at least two other names have garnered consideration as the task force looks for candidates.

Louis Dabdoub, a former NOPD captain who went on to work for the Department of Homeland Security, and Greg Mullen, the police chief in Charleston, S.C., are also getting consideration.

Particularly curious is that the story was published way back in March 15 and is only now making ripples.

For his part, Mullen is making clear his stance that he's not applied for the job.
