The South Carolina Department of Mental Health is, with Gov. Nikki Haley's blessing, considering privatizing health care services for approximately 200 criminal mentally ill patients as well as about 120 sexual predators.

Mental health employees worry that with this change they may lose access to state benefits as they get closer to retirement. Mental health advocates worry that this change will affect the quality of care that the patients will receive.
The Post and Courier has an in-depth look at both the pros and cons of privatizing mental health services; check the story out here.
