Bulldog Tours Donates Over $2,500 to Special Needs Children Through Donation Program; Hugs For Harper New Benefiting Charity

Charleston’s best walking tour company, Bulldog Tours, has raised over $2,500 through a donation program created last winter to raise funds for Family Connection South Carolina, which helps parents of children with disabilities in South Carolina.

The company relaunched this program June 1 to benefit Hugs for Harper, a charity set up on behalf of nine-year-old, Harper Drolet, who was diagnosed with soft tissue cancer in October 2009.

Bulldog Tours will donate $1 for each mile walked by guides on tours throughout the summer. During the first donation program benefitting Family Connection South Carolina, Bulldog Tour’s guides walked 2,776 miles and $2,776 was raised.

The Drolets live in the same neighborhood as the owner of Bulldog Tours, John LaVerne, and selecting Hugs for Harper as the benefiting charity was an easy choice for LaVerne. “I want to do whatever I can to help Harper,” explained LaVerne. Hugs for Harper was created to help absorb the cost of Harper’s treatment.

Bulldog Tours was founded in 2001 and operates 360 days a year. Tours include two culinary, four ghost and a history tour. Bulldog Tours is dedicated to preservation, and has raised $1.3 million to date to preserving several historic, downtown sites. The company has been featured on television networks like The Travel Channel and The Food Network, and has been included in publications such as USA Today, Southern Living and the New York Times. Tours take place seven days a week, and tickets range from $10 to 42.
