Cancelled – Water the Future (WTF) Event

We’ve got some unfortunate news to share with you all: Charleston Waterkeeper has decided to cancel this year’s Water the Future (WTF) campaign event (scheduled for 11.18.2010).

The decision was made one week ago after thoughtful consideration.  The truth behind our canceling of this year’s event comes down to one thing: quality.  The coordination, planning, management, and eventual execution of any event requires a devoted allocation of time, energy, and resources.  Over the past few months however, many of these elements have been focused on strengthening Charleston Waterkeeper’s advocacy work.

We believe that in order to adequately and effectively advocate for any issue, one must first have the strongest of information possible to support said position.  For this reason, we as an organization are obsessively committed to gathering scientific data, researching permits, and pouring over legal documents so that we may arm ourselves with the necessary information to support positions we will inevitably be taking over time.

This refocus of time and energy has taken needed resources from some of our external operations (i.e. planning events, outings, etc.).  Here in lies the reason for our cancellation of this year’s Water the Future (WTF) event.  As noted earlier, after careful consideration, we as a team decided that the event that we would have hosted would not have been the quality of event we would have wanted, and the quality of event you as a community would have deserved.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cost, but we are confident that we have made the right choice.

In clean water and strong communities,
Cyrus
