CARTA drivers, staff bring home awards for excellence

Today, The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) recognized several representatives for their accomplishments in transportation during the monthly board meeting. 

Dock Fogle, a fixed bus operator with 37 years experience, was awarded the SCDOT Driver of the Year. The CARTA/ Veolia Transportation team was also recognized for their participation in the South Carolina State Bus Rodeo, where they won the title of 2012 SC State Bus Maintenance Rodeo Winners.

“These hard working individuals are a great example of the dedicated and driven staff at CARTA and Veolia.  These individual accomplishments are the reason we are able to deliver the great service for the area,” said CARTA Executive Director Christine Wilkinson. “It is important that we recognize them for not only these great awards, but recognize the great work they do every day serving the community.”

“We are very proud of these CARTA and Veolia employees that go above and beyond the call of duty,” said CARTA Executive Director Christine Wilkinson. “Congratulations to these enthusiastic employees.  We are extremely proud of their accomplishments and want to recognize them for their continued dedication and service.”

On Saturday, March 17, 2012, the South Carolina State Bus Rodeo took place in Myrtle Beach.  Veolia Transportation/ CARTA was represented by Shannon Byrum, Jason Benton, and David Mungin.  This team was coached by Veolia Transportation/ CARTA Maintenance Director David Bonner.  The competition involved participants showing their skills amongst other transit agencies throughout the state in three different categories including pre-tripping a defected bus, resolving issues with a defective engine in a set time, and a final written test quizzing participant knowledge in a set time. The team will now prepare for the National Bus Roadeo, a similar event that brings in transit agencies across the nation to compete.

On Tuesday, March 20, 2012, Transportation Association of South Carolina (TASC) awarded Dock Fogle, a fixed bus operator with Veolia Transportation, as SCDOT Driver of the Year.  Dock Fogle began his driving career in 1973 and has been dedicated to providing world class safety and exemplary customer service. His dedication to safety has been exemplified by his driving record, without one single accident in 37 years.  Fogle was initiated into the Three Million Mile Club in May 2011for this achievement. During his career, Fogle has also been recognized as a three-time winner at the Local Bus Roadeo and two-time winner at the State Bus Roadeo.
