Heavy Equipment leaves Lowcountry for Fukushima

Too heavy to enter the state of Georgia, the disassembled Putzmeister (seriously) Pump was stored in North Charleston. Now it's been summoned for a rescue mission to Japan.

The Post and Courier has a great write up on how it arrived in the Lowcountry and how they're transporting it to Japan. Interesting bit of trivia: This 80-ton beast is a larger version of the equipment used to pump concrete for the Ravenel Jr. Bridge towers.

Quirky transportation blog Telstar Logistics has a bit more information on exactly how this pump is going to be used at the nuclear site.

Video of the concrete pumps in action is on YouTube.
