How and why on pursuing Charleston's 'Opportunity Next' future

Around this time last month, the Charleston Regional Development Alliance was booming with pride over unveiling its strategic plan for the economic future of Charleston: Opportunity Next.

In a nutshell, the plan calls for the future economy in Charleston to continue to build upon emerging sectors already taking root in the region: Aerospace, biofuels, wind energy, and security by attracting new companies, developing infrastructure, and developing workforce.

In a column today, The Post and Courier connects the synergy dots between that effort and nearly a half-billion in funds now available after the demise of the I-526 plan (read that column here).

It's certainly not the first time the release of the dollars has raised hopes of other much-needed regional improvements.
